Lexmark's Research and Development (R&D) held a Badge Design Contest for its seven departments for three days. Competing teams were not required to be designers since each team will have a design mentor to guide them.
Role
Design mentor's job was to guide and help the team in the design process and the execution on the digital software. It was kind of a challenge for me since I was chosen to be a design mentor of firmware engineers who were not familiar with the process.

Design Process
Word vomit - they listed down all the words they could describe R&D in 5 minutes. Out of those words, they chose the top 3 to best describe the department.
After a lot of research for inspirations, mood board creation and discussion on what symbols to represent each department, we gathered all ideas and finalized the best one to move forward.
Here's the final design that I digitalized using Adobe Illustrator.
We were also awarded runner up in the Badge Design Contest.
"Each Mission does excellent work towards a common goal. When the seven badges are put together, there is a flow – a connection – between the teams. This is seen in the way a badge blends into
the ones next to it.
The shape that is formed is reminiscent of the Pusô – an homage to our roots: Cebu. The Pusô is symbolic of our culture – our love for gatherings where we eat and talk and laugh and bond.
The badges surround a diamond-shaped space, the aperture from the Lexmark logo. It is indeed by working well together that we achieve Lexmark's goals."
